The last few weeks have been an amazing introduction to two Sotheby’s International Realty offices in South Africa; one in Pretoria and the other in an area called Midrand, which is located between Johannesburg and Pretoria (the two capitals of South Africa). I spent most of my time in the Midrand office, which is one of the newest offices in South Africa with a team of six agents who are guided by Grahame Diedericks. Grahame is a lean real estate machine and former professional boxer who is driven to do things just a little different. He is totally hands on with all of his agents and gives them many great tools to succeed. Last week I joined him and one of his agents on a viewing a potential new listing. The listing was an old South African farm home that had not been lived in for seven years. It was about 4,000 square feet and felt like we were in a time machine. It is a brick home with a thatch roof and was considered a bit of a fixer, to say the least. The amount of knowledge they walked in the door with was amazing and by the time we left both Grahame and the agent knew that the starting price would be around 4.1 million rand, and they thought it would sell fast. Next, a stop at a commercial project that would be considered very green in our world and with several buildings to lease and sell, it too will go fast.
But honestly, I just feel so honored to be able to learn from Grahame and his agents. They are driven and Grahame’s office will grow organically. Like Stacy and Dean Jones, he too had a marketing/advertising background and became so successful he sold it and traveled the world. He is always looking two steps ahead to find the next marketing venue to create a successful platform for his agent, his buyer, his sellers and his company.
